THERAPEUTIC TRADITIONAL THAI MASSAGE - Nuad Boran
Thai Massage has been practiced for thousands of years and its teachings have been handed down from generation to generation. It was founded over 2500 years ago by Buddha's physician Doctor Shivago Komarpaj.
Translated from Thai into English 'Nuad Boran' means 'Ancient Massage' however it is very different from the type of tissue manipulation usually associates with the word 'massage'. It is accurate to think of Thai Massage as body manipulation such as Rolfing, Alexander Technique, Shiatsu etc.
Thai Massage is performed on a mat on the floor as supposed to a raised table. This allows for the most effective use of the practitioners body weight rather than muscular force, creating a highly therapeutic effect. Because soft tissue manipulation is a subordinate part of Thai Massage the client may remain fully clothed except for the feet. Clothing should be light and loose allowing for flexible movement. Thai Fisherman trousers can be provided upon request.
It is often referred to as 'lazy man's yoga' as the positions follow a definite order forming a natural and logical sequence in the same way as found in Astanga Vinyasa yoga or any well structured yoga programme. It is used not only to support and maintain a full functioning of life but also to treat and assist in the reversal of degenerative conditions.
Having lived in Thailand for 5 years Tara experienced the benefits of Thai Massage first hand and after a brief introduction from a local healer she went on to study her Level 1 Diploma with Brian Cooper, PHD. After practicing at this level for 18 months she went on to study Levels II and IV, Therapeutic Thai Massage, at the Institute of Thai Massage in Chiang Mai, ITM. At the same time she also completed a diploma in Thai Herbal Hot Compress Massage.
Thai Massage is hugely beneficial to everyone but particularly to those suffering with Headaches, Back pain, Knee pain, Shoulder & Neck pain, Digestive problems, menstrual cramp, asthma, MS, ME & Hypertension. It is deeply relaxing. By working on pressure points and energy lines (known as meridian lines in Chinese medicine) tension is released restoring the natural flow of energy inducing homeostasis, balance and harmony and improving circulation. Problem areas are often considerably improved because the whole body is treated rather than concentrating on a specific area. For example releasing tight hips often has an immediate effect on lower back pain. Stretching movements re-align the skeletal system opening joints and increasing flexibility. It improves neurological functioning and assists in relieving degenerative conditions associated with the aging process.
Tara offers either 75 minute or 2 hour sessions at £35 and £50.

THAI HERBAL HOT COMPRESS
This style of Thai Massage incorporates herbal compresses into the traditional Thai massage. The Herbal compresses contain a combination of herbs and are heated in a steamer. The blend of herbs are used to relieve sprains and pulled muscles and tendons, stiffness and inflammation in the joints and also stimulate blood circulation. The compresses give a great boost to the body's energy levels relaxing and soothing over worked and tired muscles.
With the combination of herbs, heat and massage your muscles are encouraged to relax and heal. It is traditionally used in Thailand to remedy symptoms such as a poor immune system, high blood pressure, as a remedy for numbness and paralysis, fatigue and to balance health during an illness. It is highly recommended for women who have recently given birth and for those on a weight lose programme.
Tara charges £50 for this 2 hour massage plus £10 for the herbal compress which can be used up to three times.
NUTRITIONAL THERAPY
Nutritional therapists offer one on one personal advice and access the whole individual, working with them to achieve and maintain health through nutritional means. There are many chronic health problems that conventional medicine finds difficult to treat, including digestive and bowel disorders, hormonal imbalances, fatigue, depression, stress, skin disorders, auto-immune conditions and migraines. Nutritional Therapy can make a huge difference to all of these, and in many cases such as obesity or learning difficulties nutritional therapy offers an alternative to prescription medicine.
During our first consultation I try to get a picture of your overall health from head to toe! Finding out about you and your families' history of health also gives me a better understanding of your current health picture as does your current lifestyle and diet. Any specific health issues are addressed and advice and support is given on each person’s unique dietary and nutritional needs.
My interest in nutrition started about 6 years ago when doctors where unable to offer an answer to my health problems resulting in me visiting a nutritional therapist. So fascinated by the benefits on my own health I started studying at the Nutritional Healing Foundation .
